A retired operative with the build of a breaching charge, the wardrobe of a man on permanent shore leave, and the unnerving habit of knowing exactly how bad things are before anyone else.

Field summary
Short profile
The old guard never really retires.
Atlas is disciplined, formidable, and far more observant than his easy manner suggests. He has survived long enough to stop advertising what he can do. The loud shirts may be sincere. The relaxed posture is not.

01
Backstory
Atlas spent enough years in the field to become the sort of man who appears in other people’s stories without appearing in official records. The assignments, employers, and causes changed. His habits did not: assess the room, protect the exit, and never confuse a quiet moment with a safe one.
Rigel was already under his protection when Orion arrived. After Orion was orphaned at six, Atlas took him in and raised both boys within the same hard, unconventional household. He taught them to shoot, plan, disappear, and understand that survival without judgment merely postpones the mistake.
He now claims to be retired. This would be more convincing if trouble did not continue to consult him.
02
Relationship to Orion
Atlas is the nearest thing Orion has to a father, though neither man is inclined to use the word. Their bond was built through years of training, arguments, long silences, and the practical certainty that each would cross hostile territory for the other without needing to discuss it first.
Much of Orion’s discipline came from Atlas: the contingency plans, the careful reading of people, and the refusal to act merely because anger demands motion. Atlas also knows exactly where that discipline breaks—and has never been above using the knowledge when Orion becomes too certain of himself.
He is proud of the man Orion became. He is considerably less impressed by Orion’s ability to recognize when he is being an idiot.
